Making Japanese Books

  • Wiscasset Creative Alliance PO Box 617 Wiscasset, ME 04578 USA (map)

In the Japanese Books workshop we will create a 4-hole stab binding using hammers & awls to create the decorative stitching on this book. If time allows, we will explore more complex sewing patterns as well.

This workshop is the second of a 3-week series of book arts classes that cover various techniques and materials. Each class will focuses on a different topic, but all contribute to learning the basics of book binding vocabulary and a bit of book binding history. Students register for each class separately, and while encouraged to come to all three, it’s not necessary for attending this session.

Instructor Joelle Webber has spent 40 years collecting book arts techniques in college and workshop settings. Learn more about Joelle and Mermaid Bindery here.

Hosted by Waterfall Arts, 256 High Street, Belfast, Maine. Register for the workshop here.
