Enslavement in Maine

  • Wiscasset Creative Alliance PO Box 617 Wiscasset, ME 04578 USA (map)

Learn some of the lesser told stories of Lincoln County’s past with an overview of enslavement in Maine, beginning in the 17th century and its expansion in the state for more than two hundred years.

Vana Carmona is the founder of The Prince Project, a database of over 2000 people of color who lived in Maine prior to 1800. Vana had always known that she had descended from a number of early New England settlers, but it was only recently that she discovered the role they had played in enslaving kidnapped Africans.

Vana has given presentations on her genealogical research to various local historical societies and schools and is a docent/guide for several historic sites in the Portland area.

Please register for the presentation on the LCHA web site.

This free talk is sponsored by Lincoln County Historical Association. Please consider a donation to support our offering of high quality programs to the public and our stewardship of irreplaceable historic buildings in Lincoln County, Maine.
